Capricciosa Pizza
Capricciosa pizza, meaning "capricious" in Italian, is a traditional Italian food recipe known for its rich variety of toppings and indulgent flavor. Originating in Naples, this recipe is a celebration of classic Italian ingredients and often reflects the mood or whim of the chef—hence the name. Typically served with a thin, crispy crust, Capricciosa includes tomato sauce, mozzarella, artichoke hearts, mushrooms, cooked ham, and olives, bringing together savory, earthy, and slightly tangy notes in each bite. As with many Italian food recipes, variations exist—some versions also include hard-boiled egg or anchovies, depending on regional or personal preferences.
Capricciosa is considered a cousin to the Quattro Stagioni ("Four Seasons") pizza, as both use similar toppings but differ in their arrangement—Capricciosa blends all the toppings together, creating a symphony of flavors in each slice. It represents the Italian love for variety and quality ingredients, showcasing a balance of texture and taste. Whether enjoyed in a Neapolitan pizzeria or made at home, Capricciosa pizza is a satisfying and elegant option for lovers of traditional Italian cuisine.
